Natural Resource Interns

This introductory internship program exposes students to multiple elements of a natural resources career. Participants will help harvest in our educational gardens, practicing seed saving and food preservation techniques. They will also learn about invasive species management, help thin our Russian Olive trees, learn about management of permaculture systems like food forests, assemble Johnson-Su Bioreactor compost systems, prune fruit trees, collect data on aquatic ecosystems, participate in the construction of goat and turkey sheds, and (in the spring) learn about animal stewardship. This internship has a little bit of everything and is a good introductory program for those interested in natural resource fields who aren’t sure yet exactly where they want to focus. Participants are supported individually in their acquisition of workplace skills like timekeeping, organization, and communication.
