Youth Education Programs

ELEMENTARY & MIDDLE SCHOOL EDUCATION

  • Land Lab: In 2025 we launched Land Lab, a monthly series of free STEM-focused workshops for ages 7–12 at our centrally located Rio Fernando Park. In partnership with Taos Learning Lab, the program connects environmental exploration with design and engineering through hands-on, inquiry-based learning. Check out our Events page to see when our upcoming Land Lab workshops are scheduled.

If you are a teacher and would like to sign your class up for a Land Lab workshop of their own, you can reach out to Nora at wicks@taoslandtrust.org to schedule a time. Lessons can be held at the park or in classrooms to reduce transportation barriers, are aligned with grade-level standards, and are customizable to classroom curricula. • Ecology and Agriculture Lessons. We invite school groups to visit us for free hands-on learning led by our team of experienced educators. All lessons are modified to be grade-level appropriate and to align with grade-level standards. Click here for a full list of workshops we offer. To sign up for a workshop, email our Education Coordinator wicks@taoslandtrust.org.
  • Afterschool in the Park. Beginning in Spring of 2026, we’ll be offering a once-weekly afterschool program for Middle School students. Students will help care for our goats and turkeys, help plant in our gardens, and lend a hand on river restoration projects. This program is focused on social-emotional skill development while exposing students to a wide range of experiences in stewardship, agriculture and natural resources. Keep your eyes peeled for more information in February, 2026.

HIGH SCHOOL & YOUNG ADULT EDUCATION

  • We work with a variety of local experts and teachers to provide high school classes with customized lessons in environmental topics of their choosing. Topics can include, but are not limited to: ecological monitoring, soil health, watersheds, acequia history, regenerative agriculture, botany, wildlife biology, art, and forestry. We recognize the value of recurring programs over one-off field trips and would love to hear from you if you would like to bring your class to the park on a recurring basis or have us design a series of workshops individually tailored to align with your curriculum. Reach out to wicks@taoslandtrust.org if you’d like to learn more about our high school programs.
