Education Programs

Taos Land Trust is committed to providing conservation, regenerative agriculture, and ecology- focused education programs to Taos County residents. Rio Fernando Park serves as our primary outdoor learning playground, where students of all ages can explore restored wetlands, quantify plant diversity, play among willows, or plant seeds in rich soil.

Our education programs include our Emerging Ecologist program, which offers customized outdoor workshops for local schools and homeschool groups; interactive weekend events and festivals; hands-on workshops for adults; and internships for young adults.

Emerging Ecologist School Programs

Our Emerging Ecologist education programs seek to foster the next generation of land stewards, scientists and inquisitive thinkers by providing workshops and curriculum that promote nature immersion, exploration, and creative problem solving. We invite school groups to visit us for free hands-on learning led by our team of experienced educators. Workshops topics include environmental education, regenerative agriculture, nature art, and stewardship. All lessons are modified to be grade-level appropriate, and we can provide lesson plans and grade-level standards upon request.

To sign up for a workshop, email our Education Coordinator wicks@taoslandtrust.org.

Throughout the year, we offer free community events and workshops covering conservation, regenerative agriculture, ecology, and the arts. These include:

  • Food Forest: Permaculture design and tree pruning workshops offered seasonally in collaboration with the Food Forest Movement of Taos
  • Science Outside: Seasonally-themed outdoor events integrating science and outdoor fun for kids.
  • Regenerative Agriculture Workshops: We offer occasional hands-on community workshops on orchard management, healthy soils, no-till agriculture, cover cropping, irrigation, invasive plant management, natural dyes, food processing and more.
  • Volunteering: volunteering is a great way to learn more about conservation and agriculture. Click here to learn more about our volunteer programs.

Our community event scheduling varies year to year. Stay up-to-date on future events through Facebook and Instagram.

These programs provide on-the-job training in ecological monitoring, data analysis, community leadership, healthy soils, regenerative agriculture, acequia systems and more! Specific programs vary year-to-year but often include:

  • Youth Conservation Corps
  • Americorps
  • NM Workforce Connections Internships
